How do contractors demonstrate PPE compliance on a publicly funded construction project?

Contractors on publicly funded construction works are required to show that appropriate health and safety arrangements are in place and that any identified risks are being properly managed. 

The evidence required will vary from project to project and will be dictated by the specific contract, but may include risk assessments, site inspection records, training of the workforce, induction records, incident reports and records of any corrective actions taken.

This not only helps to identify issues that require further investigation, but also highlights patterns that can thereafter be reported on and investigated to proceed with future prevention.

Can AI PPE detection be used on a high security public sector site (e.g. a police station or custody facility)?

‍

AI PPE detection could be appropriate for certain high security public sector construction projects but it's all down to the site's security classification, the operational requirements, the level of monitoring you can actually do.

There is no straight answer as it would need to be assessed on a case by case basis, for example a police station, a custody suite or some other sensitive type of public building may have additional controls that simply don't apply to a standard construction site.

Prior to introducing AI cameras the contractor and the relevant site stakeholders should establish where monitoring is permitted, which areas must be outside of camera coverage and whether the proposed equipment and data handling arrangements are in line with the project's security requirements.

AI PPE detection should be seen as an addition to the site's existing health and safety and security procedures rather than a replacement for them. It has to be assessed on a project-by-project basis to ensure it is appropriate.

This development is a key component of the £350 million Talbot Gateway regeneration project, which also includes a new tram interchange at Blackpool North Station and a 144-room Holiday Inn hotel. Muse Developments has chosen VINCI Building to construct a £100 million, 215,000 sq ft office in Blackpool’s town centre, scheduled for completion by March 2025. Designed by Make Architects, this seven-story building will serve as the new headquarters for civil servants from the Department for Work and Pensions and the Ministry of Defence. VIS Systems played a crucial role in ensuring site safety throughout the construction by deploying Solar CCTV towers and time-lapse features, providing a comprehensive 360-degree security solution.
