At VIS Systems, we have been shortlisted across three categories at the Building Innovation Awards 2026, with VISion AI recognised for its use of Visualisation Technology, Remote Monitoring Technology, and Automation / AI.
All three entries centre on the same platform, but each looks at VISion AI from a different angle.
While one focuses on how live construction footage is turned into something teams can actually understand.

Our continued development pursues recognition…
The recognition follows a year of continued development of our services at VIS Systems.
In 2025, we were proudly awarded Best Use of Remote Monitoring Technology at the Building Innovation Awards, with the recognition of our remote site monitoring and the workforce management platform that VISion AI has since extended.
Alongside this, we have been included in Build in Digital’s Top 20 Contech Partners 2026, placing VIS Systems among the construction technology businesses recognised for their contribution to the built environment.
The same principle always remains at the centre of the development, that being to use technology to give construction teams better visibility, reduce unnecessary manual processes and make sites easier to manage.
Best use of Visualisation Technology
Most Construction Site CCTV is designed to record; we understood the missing piece: recording does not necessarily equate to actual visibility.
While a wall of monitors can contain huge amounts of information in retrospect, it is unrealistic to watch every camera continuously and identify every relevant event.
That being said, traditionally, footage becomes most valuable after something has happened, when teams need to investigate what went wrong.
The problem we solved…
Our VISion AI technology changes the role of that footage, by making it actionable in real time.
The system identifies safety events and presents them as short, pre-identified clips, rather than leaving teams to search through hours of recordings that could waste precious time, particularly in the case of a serious incident.
The strongest part of the visualisation entry, however, is what that shared view means for collaboration; site managers, HSQE teams, project directors and head office can work from the same visual information.
The technology does not make decisions independently; it directs supervisors towards where attention is needed, giving people clearer information to act on.
The innovation is therefore not simply the camera itself; it is the intelligence layer that allows construction teams to read what the camera sees.
Best use of remote monitoring technology
This is the category VIS Systems won in 2025, and the 2026 entry demonstrates how that approach has developed over time.
The shift is from knowing who is on site to knowing whether they are working safely, VISion AI provides monitoring across the changing lifecycle of a construction project. At the point of access, VIS Systems’ workforce platform can verify workers, credentials and inductions.
As the project moves into structural and work-at-height phases, monitoring can focus on harnesses and fall protection. When lifting operations intensify, virtual exclusion zones can be configured around crane swing areas and suspended loads.
The bottom line is, as the site changes, camera coverage and monitoring configurations can be adjusted to reflect the new risks.
Best use of Automation or AI
The Automation or AI entry looks further back, because VIS Systems’ current approach to AI is built on a longer record of first-to-market development.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we launched what is described as the UK’s first plug-and-play facial recognition access control system for construction sites, at a time when fingerprint scanners had become impractical.
That development established the principle of using technology to remove friction from workforce monitoring without removing the people responsible for managing it.
VISion AI takes the same approach further.
The system has been developed specifically around construction environments, on contrary to simply adapting generic surveillance technology.
Automation also reduces the administrative burden around compliance, every detection can be logged, categorised and time-stamped, making for accessible information that can support inspections, audits and CDM reporting.
The AI identifies and surfaces potential issues, while human operators and site teams remain responsible for reviewing and responding to them.
What the three categories have in common
The three separate award categories are looking at the same platform through three different lenses.
Visualisation is about how information is presented, in our case turning live footage into something teams can understand quickly.
Remote monitoring is about how that information is used across a live project, providing continuous oversight as the site, workforce and risks change.
Automation and AI is about what happens behind the scenes, identifying events, processing information and reducing the manual work involved in monitoring and reporting.
VISion AI has been developed as a connected platform, bringing those elements together, working around the way construction teams actually work.
Our experience in building on real construction sites
The three entries are supported by live deployments that we have worked on, specifically across major UK construction projects, with contractors including Bowmer & Kirkland, Morgan Sindall, GMI, SISK, Kier, Tilbury Douglas, Willmott Dixon, Wates and VINCI.
VISion AI works on changing site layouts, multiple trades, moving plants, work at height and the everyday pressures of construction delivery.
